A Comparison of the New York State Learning Standards in Math and the Common Core

Why are parents are so troubled by the Common Core standards–especially in mathematics?  I have prepared a document that I think provides concrete examples.  It compares the NYS Learning Standards that were adopted in 2005 with the Common Core Standards.   I do not compare equivalent grade levels.  Rather I compare topics in the NYS Learning Standards of a particular grade (e.g. 3rd Grade) with the Common Core standards of a lower grade (e.g. 2nd Grade).  I provide four examples cut and pasted from the actual documents.  You can see those examples here:
